Our collection of black and boulder opals is regarded by many in the Opal industry as one of the finest. This collection has been exhibited at the Opal Expo at Lightning Ridge by special request from the Australian Opal Association. Some of the opals we’ve sold are currently being exhibited at private galleries worldwide.

Our clients include world renowned celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld, Anthony Hopkins, Santana and John Cleese. We have also clients that are foreign dignitaries, prime ministers, ambassadors, and private opal collectors, but the majority of our clients are ordinary travelers, buying opal jewellery and opal gifts for themselves and loved ones back home.

Rockhounds was established in 1972 and over more than 47 years the business has evolved in the areas of opal mining, wholesale and retail. The owner Mr. Paul Hain has been buying solid black opal since 1972 and he has operated three large open cut mines at Lighting Ridge. He is highly regarded in the Australian opal industry for his knowledge of opals, honest business dealing and his large collection of top quality opal gemstones.
